Regional Variations of Metabolite Concentrations in the Rat Brain Assessed with in vivo H MR Spectroscopy at 16.4T
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction In vivo H NMR spectroscopy provides a neurochemical profile containing invaluable information associated with energy metabolism, membrane metabolism, antioxidants and osmolytes [1]. Postnatal and regional changes in metabolite concentrations were reported in the rat [2] and the mouse brain [3], even in the very small region of the hypothalamus [4]. All these results demonstrated different metabolite concentrations in specific brain regions. The purpose of this study was 1) to demonstrate acquisitions of spectra in different brain regions at 16.4T 2) to investigate the anatomical distribution of cerebral metabolites.

Measurement of the Effects of Different Anesthetics in the Rat Thalamus by in vivo H NMR Spectroscopy at 16.4T
Introduction Localized in vivo H NMR spectroscopy in the rat brain has demonstrated alterations in the concentrations of metabolites, mainly glucose, under various anesthetic agents. A high dose of pentobarbital showed significantly decreased glucose in the rat brain compared with rats under isoflurane anesthesia [1]. Similarly, a substantial increase of glucose was reported in rat cortex under...
متن کاملIn vivo metabolite differences between the basal ganglia and cerebellum of the rat brain detected with proton MRS at 3T.
In vivo magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) enables non-invasive longitudinal tracking of brain chemistry changes that can accompany aging, neurodegenerative disease, drug addiction and experimental manipulations in animals modeling such conditions. J-coupled resonances, such as glutamate, which are highly relevant to neuropsychiatric conditions are difficult to resolve on a clinical 3T MR sc...
متن کاملDevelopmental and regional changes in the neurochemical profile of the rat brain determined by in vivo 1H NMR spectroscopy.
Sixteen metabolites were quantified from 11-24 micro l volumes in three different brain regions (hippocampus, striatum, and cerebral cortex) during postnatal development. Rat pups from the same litter were repeatedly measured on postnatal days 7, 10, 14, 21, and 28 using a completely noninvasive and longitudinal study design. Metabolite quantification was based on ultra-short echo-time (1)H NMR...
متن کاملQuantitation of normal metabolite concentrations in six brain regions by in-vivo 1H-MR spectroscopy
This study examined the concentrations of brain metabolites visible to in-vivo(1)H-Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy ((1)H-MRS) at 1.5 T in a sample of 28 normal subjects. Quantitation was attempted for inositol compounds, choline units, total creatine and N-acetyl moieties, using open-source software. Six brain regions were considered: frontal and parietal white matter, medial temporal lobe, tha...
متن کاملEffects of physiologic human brain motion on proton spectroscopy: quantitative analysis and correction with cardiac gating.
SUMMARY Proton MR spectroscopy is a powerful noninvasive method that enables measurement of certain brain metabolites in healthy subjects and patients with diseases. A major difficulty with clinical and research applications of in vivo proton MR spectroscopy is the variability of metabolite concentrations, especially in regions with substantial physiologic motion. In our preliminary evaluation,...
